I thought to do a fun post and you get to learn a little about the state I live in. 

Let's dive in. 

Words you don't actually understand unless you are from Michigan. 

Michigander = what you call a person that lives or is from Michigan.

U.P. = Upper Peninsula in Michigan.

Yooper =  A Canadian in Upper Peninsula 

Ranch Dressing = Condiment you put on everything. 

Football= Single effecent way to maybe tear families apart on the team they root for. Michigan State vs. Michigan Wolverines 

Meijer= Were you get literally all your food. 

Up North= Were you go camping. 

Lake= Basically an ocean. 

Kalamazoo= A pretty Adverge city. 

Boating Licens= You get before your Drivers Licens

Stack n' Shake= Coolest place to go with your friends at 2 am.

Hand= The only map you will ever need.

Michigan's Adventure= Rollor Coaster.

Holland= A city in Michigan were the tulip Festival happens.  

Soybeans= What grows when farmers finally run out of corn. 

Weather= Literally no one knows, could change at any time. 

(True it does that alot)

And here's some pictures of Micghigan on the map to prove it looking like a hand or mitten. Wich  ever one you want to call it. 


Michigan's outline looks more  like a mitten grabbing a rabbit.

Michigan is home to the largest limestone quarry on Earth.


The painted turtle is Michigan's state reptile.
Michigan is home to the only floating post office in the world, J.W. Westcott II.

  • 1896: Henry Ford builds his first experimental automobile, the quadricycle, at his home in Detroit.
  • Michigan's actual birthday is Jan. 26, 1837. It is also known as the Mitten State, the Wolverine State or even the Great Lakes State.
  • Michigan is surrounded by water. It has tens of thousands of miles of rivers and streams, and more total shorelines than any state except Alaska. 
  • January is the worst month in Michigan.
  • Michigan is the No. 1 state in America.
  • Michigan is the largest producer of cherries in the United States. Michigan's fruit-growing regions produce a variety of fruits, including apples, peaches, pears, and plums.

  • Home to the Largest Freshwater Sand Dunes in the World. 
  • Some People Consider Lake Michigan and Lake Huron to Be One Lake.
  • The U.S. state of Michigan is believed to have gotten its name from an Ojibwe word meaning “large lake.” Michigan is the only state to border on four of the five Great Lakes. Sometimes called the Great Lakes State, Michigan has more coastline than any state other than Alaska. The capital is Lansing.
  • It is known for famous Mackinac Island fudge, Coney Island Hot Dogs, and Cornish Pasties, which were introduced by miners who came to the state from Cornwall, England. Tart cherries, Packzi (Polish Filled Donuts), and Superman Ice Cream are more popular foods you might enjoy when visiting Michigan.

  • Mackinac is pronounced = Ma-kuh-naa 
  • Make share you pronounced this word right. When we moved to Michigan right away we were tolled how to pronounce it. 
  •  

  •  Michigan has the only authentic Dutch windmill operating in the United States. The De Zwaan Windmill in Holland, Mich. is not only a historic attraction, it’s also a functioning machine that produces healthy whole wheat flour for the local community and beyond.



  • Michigan is home to one of only four ice luge tracks in the nation. The Muskegon Winter Sports Complex offers visitors access to acres of ice, trails and woods for those brave enough to bare the cold temperatures.

  • Michigan is home to one of 30 certified International Dark Sky Parks in the world. The Headlands in Mackinaw City was designated an official dark sky park in 2011. Visitors can explore 600 acres of old-growth forest and more than two miles of undeveloped Lake Michigan shoreline, all undiluted by light pollution.

  • Detroit has been the automotive capital of the world and is still home to three major automotive manufacturers. As home of Motown records, Detroit is also known as “Hitsville U.S.A.”                    


  • Best place to live in Michigan,  Ann Arbor -- With an overall score of 6.7/10, Ann Arbor is not only rated as the best place to live in Michigan, it came in at No. 14 in the U.S. Thanks to the diverse offerings in the city and a thriving job market, Ann Arbor has a little bit of something for everyone.
